— Our Story —

In 2009 Michael Macfarlane and his late wife Sandra had a vision: to open a small, European-style cafe offering a casual, yet romantic, experience. One of those tucked-away neighborhood spots that is as equally fit for date night as it is for a lazy afternoon snack. And thus, Petisco (which translates roughly in Portuguese as “small bites”) was born.

As all things do, the vision morphed. In 2012 Sandra lost a two-year battle to cancer. As Michael said goodbye to his wife and found himself sole proprietor of Petisco, he allowed himself to recognize the value of community.

In 2016 Michael joined forces with another Portland native, Sabrina Sterling. As business and life partners, Michael and Sabrina believe strongly in the power of community, compassion and affecting change from the inside out. They hold fast to the concept that a positive work environment translates directly to a positive customer experience.

With Sabrina’s background in bar management, Petisco is now proudly serving small-batched cocktails, in addition to our small yet thoughtful wine program

“We are grateful every day for the support of the neighborhood, our friends and our family. We strive to continually learn, grow and give.

May your every meal be imbued with laughter, abundance and joy!”
